Borough on Raritan Bay
Welcome to Union Beach, a small Monmouth County borough on Raritan Bay, where the bayfront beach offers views of the Manhattan skyline across the water.
Union Beach is a small borough in northern Monmouth County, New Jersey, set along Raritan Bay between Keyport and Keansburg. Just 1.8 square miles in size, it is one of the Bayshore region's compact coastal communities — a bedroom suburb of New York City where the Manhattan skyline is visible across the water from the bayfront beach. The borough's origins lie in farmland. The area was part of Raritan Township (later Hazlet), and following the development of the Central Railroad of New Jersey, the Poole Farm became the site of a subdivision in the early 1900s. Developer Charles Carr renamed an area known as East Point Beach Estates as Union Beach in 1920, and the borough was incorporated in 1925. For much of the twentieth century it grew as a modest bayside community of cottages and small homes, tied to the Raritan Bayshore's fishing, bungalow, and commuter culture. Today Union Beach remains a tight-knit bayside town of roughly 6,400 residents. Its waterfront offers a public beach and views across Raritan Bay, and its residential streets hold a mix of older bungalows, raised homes, and newer construction. The Union Beach School System operates a single pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade school, Union Beach Memorial School, and high school students attend Keyport High School through a sending relationship, with Red Bank Regional High School available through the county's choice program. Route 36 and the Garden State Parkway run nearby, keeping the borough connected to the wider Bayshore and New York region. Who Union Beach suits: it draws buyers seeking an affordable bayside community with a small-town feel, water views, and proximity to the Garden State Parkway and the commuting options of the Bayshore, without the premium pricing of the oceanfront towns farther south.
