Bridgewater is a township in Somerset County, New Jersey, located in the central part of the state about 35 miles west of Manhattan. With a population of roughly 46,000, it is one of the larger municipalities in Somerset County and functions as the county's primary commercial hub. Bridgewater's history runs deep: the area was chartered by King George II in 1749 and incorporated as a township in 1798, placing it among New Jersey's earliest townships, and it was long known as a farming community before suburban development transformed it in the 20th century.
