Bayville is an unincorporated community in the central Jersey Shore region, located within Berkeley Township in Ocean County, New Jersey. It sits near the northern end of Barnegat Bay, where the mainland shoreline gives way to the bay's lagoons, marshes, and barrier islands. About 20,000 people live within its 08721 ZIP code area, making Bayville the largest population center in Berkeley Township and one of the more substantial bayside communities between Toms River and the northern Ocean County beaches. As an unincorporated place, it is governed as part of the township rather than as a separate municipality. The community grew as a bayside settlement within a township long known for its Pine Barrens woodlands, cranberry bogs, and shoreline. That history is preserved nearby at Double Trouble State Park, a historic Pinelands village centered on a working cranberry-bog landscape. In the decades after World War II, Berkeley Township developed into a significant residential destination, with Bayville emerging as its commercial and civic core along the Route 9 corridor.
